Consumers have countless options for purchasing most items. For example, a consumer can choose to purchase a pair of shoes directly from the manufacturer, from a brick-and-mortar store, or from an online store. Similarly, shoe manufacturers (like Nike) have choices in how they sell their product. Unfortunately for Texans, that’s not the case in the automobile industry.
We want to change that unfortunate fact by updating the laws in Texas to allow consumers to purchase their vehicles directly from manufacturers – a concept known as “direct sales”.
At Tesla, we believe the direct sales model promotes consumer choice, competition and innovation. More importantly, our customers bypass the “middle man” which improves the car buying experience and lowers the cost of our vehicles by almost 10 percent on average.
Changing the laws to allow consumers to purchase their vehicles directly from manufacturers will unleash competition and radically improve the car buying experience for Texans.
